Facebook messenger sees its biggest day ever for group video calls in US

Over 55 million live broadcasts persisted Instagram Live, Facebook Live

Due to the coronavirus restrictions imposed by the governments everywhere the planet , people took to social media apps like WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram to attach with one another on New Year's Day eve.


"More than 1.4 billion voice and video calls were made on New Year’s Eve 2020 globally, the foremost ever calls during a single day on WhatsApp," said Facebook which owns WhatsApp.


The Mark Zuckerberg led company said that WhatsApp witnessed a rise of over 50% compared to an equivalent day of 2019.


However, it had been not only WhatsApp that saw record numbers, Facebook's messenger also saw a rise in use on New Year's Day eve.


"New Year’s Eve 2020 was the most important day ever for Messenger group video calls (3+ people) within the US, with nearly 2X more group video calls on NYE compared to the typical day," said Facebook.


On the opposite hand, Facebook shared that quite 55 million people did live broadcasts globally on New Year's Day Eve on Instagram Live and Facebook Live.


The social media giant credited the coronavirus pandemic for the rise within the use of the apps.


"In 2020, people turned to technology to remain in-tuned and obtain things wiped out the face of social distancing and stay-at-home mandates, and video calling became arguably the foremost in-demand feature," said Facebook.


The social media giant said that New Year’s Eve may be a "historically busy night" for his or her services, but on the Judgment Day of 2020, they saw new records being set.
