PTI govt has 'two-and-a-half years left to enhance performance,' says PM Imran Khan


ISLAMABAD: The PTI government has only "two-and-a-half years left to require its performance forward," Prime Minister Imran Khan said Tuesday while addressing an occasion here within the federal capital.


PM Imran Khan admitted that his government didn't "have excuses anymore" which it had been "the time for performance now". At the time of transfer of power from one government to a different after general elections, all previous leaderships should provide an entire briefing to their successors, he stressed.
"When we [the PTI] came into the govt , it took us three months to know things," he said. "We're gradually learning things [even now]."

The premier said it had been his habit to ascertain m at everything in his life to see what might be done better or improved. "We have two-and-a-half years left to require the government's performance forward.


'Many ministries performed well but some didn't'


"We not have excuses. it is time for us to perform... it is time for performance now. we'd like to place pressure on ourselves to perform and our ministers also got to put pressure on themselves to enhance performance also ," he added.
PM Imran Khan mentioned that his government would now follow the A-grade projects and fast-track other top ones as they typically "get stuck in one ministry or the other". He explained that for a year-and-a-half, figures of the facility sector couldn't be ascertained.
"Many ministries performed well but some didn't ," he acknowledged.


Wheat crisis and blame on Centre


Speaking of the 18th Amendment, PM Imran Khan said the Centre now had jurisdiction over food security but the facility sector has gone to the provinces.
"If a province doesn't release the wheat [it has produced], then the federal has no authority," he lamented. When flour had become expensive, everyone "cursed the middle albeit the provinces retained all the control", he noted.


However, he announced the government's decision to review the performance of every ministry because the PTI regime would be unable to control unless that was done. "We will review the work finished the convenience of the people."
"People got to be given electricity that they will afford," he said, adding that the govt was providing a subsidy worth Rs2,500 billion.


Power sector 'so complex'


"Many subsidies also are being given to the poor and therefore the industrialists," he added.
With reference to the facility sector, he explained that it had been "so complex that various things need to be rationalised". He also said the government's emphasis was now on exports since it had been the "third biggest challenge"

PM Imran Khan, while noting that Pakistan's accounting has registered a surplus, said had it remained in deficit, the rupee would have fallen and inflation risen.
"The entire problem stems from the present account deficit," he said, vowing to not let it attend that level again.


Referring to "a mountain of pensions", the premier regretted that none of the past leaderships had ever found out an idea therein regard.
"The people need to decide whether we've improved their lives or not," PM Imran Khan said
