HDFC Bank faces intermittent glitches again; says 'looking' into issue
HDFC's digital banking services face glitch, bank says working to resolve the difficulty soon
After some HDFC Bank customers complained via social media that they were unable to access bank accounts, the bank has said it's looking into the difficulty . "Some of our customers face intermittent issues while accessing net banking or mobile banking app. We are looking into it on priority for resolution. We apologise for the inconvenience and request you to undertake again after a while ," the bank tweeted today.
This is not the primary time that HDFC customers face a service outage. The bank has been penalised by the Federal Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for 2 major outages within the past. One happened in November 2018 and therefore the other in December 2019.
Taking a stern view of the repeated outages, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had said that HDFC Bank has got to strengthen its IT system before expanding further.
The RBI had also temporarily barred HDFC Bank from launching new digital banking initiatives and issuing new credit cards. in sight of service outages over the last two years.
HDFC Bank has been classified as a systemically important entity by the RBI within the past. The bank is additionally the most important issuer of credit cards. It had 1.49 crore customers as of September 2020 while on the debit cards front, it had 3.38 crore customers.
Meanwhile, HDFC Bank has recently submitted an idea to prevent repeated glitches in its technology platform. This includes both short and long-term solutions, which can take up to 3 months to implement.
Apologising to customers for disruptions, HDFC Bank new CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan in January had said the bank was performing on war footing to strengthen its systems.
Meanwhile, the share of HDFC Bank was trading up 3.33 per cent or Rs 49.70 at Rs 1,541 on the NSE today.
